At the Snowdonia National Park Authority meeting on the 9th of December a motion by the Cllr. Elwyn Edwards to call on the Welsh Government to change planning laws to tackle the second home situation in Snowdonia was approved.

On the 26th November, Minister Lesley Griffiths will launch a new and ground-breaking long term Plan for Snowdonia. The Plan will set out in detail how the National Park Authority and its partners will address some of the greatest challenges facing the National Park.

The Dwyryd Estuary a step closer to a cable-free future

At a meeting of the National Park Authority’s Planning Committee today, planning consent was granted for the erection of a tunnel head house to the south east of the Dwyryd estuary on the edge of the National Park. This development will enable the National Grid to proceed with plans to underground 3.4km of cabling that currently crosses the estuary overhead.

Following the unprecedented volume of visitors last weekend at popular sites in Snowdonia, the National Park Authority and Gwynedd Council will today close the areas busiest mountains with the help of emergency Welsh Government legislation. We hope that these measures will ensure that last weekend’s unprecedented scenes will not be repeated this coming weekend.

Following the busiest visitor weekend in living memory in Snowdonia the National Park Authority will today take further measures to protect rural communities and vital services from the spread of the Coronavirus. In co-operation with the police and local authorities the Snowdonia National Park Authority will close all its main car parks and is also exploring options to close down the most popular mountains and sites if the situation continues.
SNPA calls on Government to institute clearer measures to protect rural communities

Only 24 hours after the Prime Minister issued tighter measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, Snowdonia National Park experienced its busiest ever visitor day yesterday. The National Park Authority in now calling on the government to institute clearer guidance and measures in order to ensure that the spread of the virus is slowed. Based on the unprecedented scenes in Snowdonia yesterday we fear that the current guidance is not explicit enough for people to protect themselves and others.

Planning a bright future for Snowdonia through Cynllun Eryri

From 3 February – 13 March 2020 the new National Park Partnership Plan called Cynllun Eryri (pronounced “cun-thl-een err-uhh-ree”) will be open for final public consultation. It sets out in detail how we will work together to look after the Park and the things that make it unique for future generations, from it’s very northern tip where the mountains meet the sea at Penmaen-bach, to its southernmost point of Aberdyfi.
Llwytmor peatland on the Carneddau to benefit from restoration work

Our peatlands act as a massive carbon store; but on the blanket bogs of Llwytmor and Foel-Grach on the Carneddau, large-scale erosion is risking releasing large amounts of carbon into our atmosphere and water courses. Now, thanks to funding from the Welsh Peatlands Sustainable Management Scheme (SMS) project and in collaboration with the National Trust and Aber and Llanfairfechan Graziers Society, peatland restoration work is about to commence on site.
