About the Book
This book comprises a collection of pictures, the earliest of which date from the 1860's, and the notes and comments which accompany them reflect the author's extensive knowledge, born out of childhood memories and a living interest in the town and its people.
About the Author
Merfyn Wyn Tomos is a native of Dolgellau. His family from both sides are from the area and it was here he received his early education. He works as an archivist and, appropriately enough, is responsible for running the Meirionydd Record Office in Dolgellau.
About Dolgellau Townscape Heritage Initiative
This is a grant scheme financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Snowdonia National Park Authority, Cadw and Gwynedd Council, in partnership with local organisations. Its principal aim is to help the community breathe life into the Conservation Area by repairing and restoring the character of historic buildings and their settings. It also aims to enhance understanding of the town's historical heritage and encourage the local community and visitors to identify with it.
